I’ve heard some people complain that Kauai waters are rough and isn’t too good for snorkeling, but we found snorkeling at Poipu Beach exceptional. Although there are waves Poipu Beach is kind of enclosed by a cove that minimizes the strength of the waves a bit. It’ll feel more like you’re swaying back and forth in about 3-4 feet of water.
While there we admired a couple of sea turtles (from a distance) just lounging on the beach. Upon snorkeling we were surprised to find numerous small schools of fish very close to shore. You’ll be snorkeling in such shallow water the vibrant colors of the fish shining from the rays of the sun contrasted with the beige sandy beach is beautifully amazing.
