Pittsburgh is most often known for it's long history of steel production, but many people aren't aware of the history of glass production. One of the earliest and best known companies in Pittsburgh is PPG, originally called the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. PPG was founded in 1883 and it quickly grew to become one of the largest producers of plate glass in the country. In 1983, PPG began construction on it's corporate headquarters in downtown Pittsburgh. The 40 story building is a showcase for the plate glass produced by the company with towering spires that resemble a castle. The building as a jewel of the Pittsburgh skyline.
