After checking into our hotel, our first sight to see was St. Mark’s Square, aka Piazza San Marco. We were just a short walk away and stepping into the Square was so amazing. We all see the pictures and they do not do justice to the Piazza. We were there in the afternoon, when the crowds were less. We had our first view of the tower, called the Campanile and the arcade (which houses shops and cafes), and the Correr Museum. Turning to our right was the Piazzetta di San Marco, where the arcade continued and the Doge’s Palace was located, running down to the water. What a sight it was! We returned several times to the Square during our days in the city as it is the main meeting spot in Venice.
