The Cape of Good Hope zone at the tip of South Africa is home to a splendid variety of bird and mammal species. Two of the larger birds of interest are the ostrich and the penguin, which are very easy to spot, plus more elusive species that take a bit of lunch. Offshore there’s a chance to see the southern right whale, as well as other species of whale. The chacma baboons are a major tourist attraction with 11 troops and about 375 individuals. Although the species is in good shape in general, the group here is considered critically endangered due to habitat loss.
