We arrived in Zurich at around 3pm by train and walked to our hotel. We stayed at Motel One Zurich - which was about a 15 minute walk with luggage from the train station and is considered a “budget hotel”. We paid about $140 for one night and chose it because it was the cheapest we saw that had a private bathroom. We didn’t want a hostel with a shared bathroom. I was very happy with Motel One, it was very clean and comfortable with great hot water and water pressure. We hadn’t eaten lunch yet so we set out to grab a bite. And though we knew Zurich was expensive - we didn’t realize just how expensive until we went to eat - haha. We checked out a few places nearby our hotel and the cheapest ones were $30-40/person for a meal. I found myself for the first time in a long time wanting McDonald’s, just as a cheaper option, which we did find about 10 min walk from our hotel. Honestly even the McDonald’s was expensive compared to here in the US though! My husband and I each got a double cheeseburger meal with a medium fry and a medium drink and our total was almost $25! (The same thing would be maybe $7 here in the US)So yeah, unfortunately I became that person who goes to McDonald’s on vacation, but considering it was the last day of our trip, and we had already gone over our budget, we couldn’t bring ourselves to spending as much as the other places charged for lunch! After eating, we went for a walk along Lake Zurich. There are beautiful views of the mountains out past the lake and the weather was perfect. We really enjoyed walking though the parks along the lake and then through town a bit. Of course we had to get some Swiss chocolate too so we did get a small box from a chocolate shop to take home. For dinner we found a Greek restaurant that didn’t charge an arm and a leg and it was actually very good. Again, far more expensive than what the same thing would be back home, but Zurich is one of the most expensive cities in the world after all!
