On Top Of The Zugspitze

We recently spent a week in Bavaria, Germany, and while there made sure to make time to ride the cable car to the top of Zugspitze. Even in bad weather the ride to the top of the tallest mountain in Germany is pretty spectacular. We purchased our tickets from the kiosk at the cable car station and realized they were good for three days - unlimited trips. The tram is new - opened in 2017 - and the ride to the top is fast. There is a clear window in the center of the floor so you can look down during the journey. Once we reached the top we were immediately in a winter wonderland with huge icicles and snow flurries. You can walk back and forth between the Germany side and the Austria side. Both have restaurants and snack bars. There are also small museums that require an additional fee. The clouds never cleared for us so we could not see below the thick white weather, but it was still very enjoyable and a great experience.
