Believe it or not this town was once called Virginia City. But it was confused with other towns with this same name so they renamed it TinCup in 1882. I love history and I loved reading and researching this areas history. It had a violent beginning. Town Marshall Harry Rivers was killed in a gunfight in 1882 and then the next Marshall Andy Jameson was shot to death. There were many Indian attacks and severe weather. In 1880 the town census was 1,495 due to gold! But as the gold disappeared so did the people. There are only a handful of year round town residents left. It was absolutely beautiful in the fall as the aspens are turning gold, orange and yellow. We felt as though we were in a very secluded and magical place as we drove the mountainous road. Very special!!!
