Oklahoma's First Carnegie Library

Guthrie, OK, United States
17 Kudos
Andrew Carnegie was once the richest man in the world, building a steel empire in ways that many today recognize as unjust. But he did not keep his vast fortune to himself, instead choosing to give it away to building public libraries around the United States. I grew up in a town with a Carnegie Library from that era, as did many people - he endowed 1,689 in all, free to the public, mostly in places where there was no such access previously. The one at Guthrie was the first for Oklahoma, and certainly has the architectural look typical to these parts of American history.
