Ocean City Family Fun

Ocean City, NJ, United States
6 Kudos
Every year we take a week in the latter part of August to 'go down the shore.' It's a wonderful time to experience the beach, the sun and the (usually warm) ocean. This past summer we stayed in "The Gardens" neighborhood of Ocean City. It's located in the northern end of the town around 1st Ave where the boardwalk begins. It's a truly perfect family spot. Not a ton of traffic, easy access to small grocery and deli shops, Easy access to the famed boardwalk, but far away enough that we didn't feel the 'kid' pressure to go every night. We could easily bike to rent jet skis and go parasailing. We even biked to a boat that took us back bay fishing. Cooking quick and easy meals, plenty of board games , movies and of course lots of bike rides made this a wonderful vacation with excellent memories.

Culture and experiences

Ocean City Parasail
Fearful of heights, I wasn't going to do this, but the crew that took us out on the boat made us all feel very safe (and played great music!). So I went up with my son. An amazing experience!!

Manco & Manco Pizza
One word: Delicious! It was the first place my son wanted to go as soon as we arrived down the shore. Their pizza is the best and watching the guys throw the pies in the air is fun for the kids. 9th street place isn't too crowded.
Browns Restaurant
People line up for blocks to get their famous donuts!! I ran the boardwalk one morning during vacation and the line was already 2 blocks long at 7:30AM! They have three varieties, cant't go wrong with any!
Spadafora's Seafood Market
We ordered take out from here for an 'easy' dinner and it was delicious! Much easier than going out with two energetic boys and since Ocean City is a 'dry' town, we were able to enjoy the seafood dinner with a nice glass of white wine!
Oves Restaurant
Not the best seafood but it was very convenient for a terrific breakfast. Be sure to ask to sit upstairs for a view of the ocean!
