Several years ago, I made multiple trips around the Upper Midwest for business. During this time, I crossed almost every bridge over the Missouri River between Yankton, South Dakota and Kansas City, Missouri. The old Meridian Highway Bridge in Yankton, South Dakota was one that I crossed numerous times on my trips. It carried southbound traffic on the lower deck (through the truss), and northbound traffic on the upper deck (above the truss).
During my last visit to Yankton, a new bridge was in the very early stages of construction. I understand that the old bridge now serves pedestrians. I will have to check it out if I am in the area again.
The Old Meridian Bridge was replaced by the Discovery Bridge a short distance to the west.
Points of interest
The Meridian Bridge connects South Dakota and Nebraska. When I was in the area, it was the only bridge over the Missouri River in Yankton.
