Clearly, I am interested in all things geology. While recently visiting Vermont for a winter weekend away with friends, we had the opportunity to visit an abandoned (but well signed) marble quarry. Vermont is known for a number of things – maple syrup, cheddar cheese, and (at least in my mind) beautiful creamy marble. The town of Dorset in Vermont is relatively near the New York border and as we were driving southwest we came across one of these marble quarries right on the roadway! Though a little difficult to navigate without snowshoes in winter, having the snowshoes made all the difference!
