Kataragama, Sri Lanka
0 Kudos
Flag
The town of Kataragama, named for the eponymous god, is a center for Sri Lankan pilgrims of Buddhist, Hindu and Musilm faiths. Every night there is an elaborate puja ceremony in the huge Kataragama temple complex where offerings are made to the gods, and especially to Kataragama himself, who has an incarnation in each religion. Music, dancing and religious hijinks are engaged in, and much fruit is eaten - after Kataragama has had his fill, of course.
