Muskie Capital of the World

Whipholt, MN 56484, USA
12 Kudos
Some of the best fishing in Minnesota is on Leech Lake. The lake is nationally recognized as a game fish lake, with abundant walleye and northerns in addition to the elusive muskie. The lake is considered one of the top lakes for muskies in the US, and the town of Walker has a very large sign proclaiming “Muskie Capital of the World.” This title was given after the famous Leech Lake Muskie Rampage in July of 1955, when during a two-week fishing extravaganza, a massive amount fish were recorded to have been caught. Stop by the local dock for a great view of this massive lake.

This is one of the few freshwater game fish that I have never caught. I heard they put up quite the fight.
