As an art history major in college, and just a lover of art and culture in general, my next stop was to the famous Museo del Prado. This museum is Madrid's crown jewel of aesthetic pleasure, and one could say the Louvre is to Paris as the Prado is to Madrid. (Though comparing the two is impossible, because they are very different experiences.) Here you will find an enormous collection of European art, ranging from classic works by Titian, Raphael, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and up to Goya. There are so many more to see than the big names, of course, and discovering those lesser known treasures was one of the highlights of my visit. General admission is 15 euros, although it is free from Tuesdays to Saturdays from 6pm to 8pm and Sundays from 5pm to 8pm.
