Multnomah Falls is probably the most famous of the many waterfalls located within the Columbia River Gorge. It is right off the road and has an impressive 620 foot drop, which makes it a major attraction in northern Oregon. The drive to the falls from the Portland area is beautiful drive along the River on its own. There are two options - the new road or the old road. We took the new highway on the way there and the old one on the way back. Multnomah Falls is right along the old highway, but the parking area there is quite small and gets congested. There is a larger parking area along the new highway that may be easier and less crowded, but we ended up waiting for a spot off the old road for roughly 10-15 mins. The parking is across the street from the Multnomah lodge restaurant, restrooms, gift shops, and the path to the viewing point of Multnomah. You can see the top part of the Falls from the parking and a short walk up puts you at the prime viewing area of both the upper and lower falls, as well as the bridge across the middle. There is also a small series of switchbacks along a paved path up to the bridge which is definitely worth doing, but the best views are from the base in my opinion. The path continues past the bridge, but it was closed due to a landslide when we were there.
Multnomah Falls Car Park
This is the larger parking lot along the new highway. It has a walkway over to the falls
