As the name already suggests, the town of Castel del Monte is all about the castle (so you might think). Well, it is actually not, in fact, it is much more than that. The town is a fine example of a typical Italian town that has not changed since many many years. The center actually looks exactly like it looked decades or even centuries ago. Due to its location on a steep hill, it has little room for expansion and the town center can't really be altered in a substantial way. Many buildings were meticulously restored and locals are proud of their history. Obviously, this is not bad for tourism either. Farming is still important in this region (you will see many fields from above) but the younger generation is evolving and tourism is definitely on the agenda. Keeps everything intact for the next generations to come.
