For our first night in the Highlands, we had a short, one-night stay at the Moorings Hotel. A moderate sized hotel for the area, it has 32 rooms with en suite bathrooms. The hotel is located in Banavie, near Fort William, on the banks of the Caledonian Canal with views of Ben Nevis, the highest peak in Britain. Our executive balcony room faced the canal. Unfortunately I did not have the foresight to take a photo. We also enjoyed dinner and breakfast in the onsite Cafe Bistro. We also had pre-dinner drinks in the cozy lounge bar serving local beers and a large range of Whiskys and Gins. In good weather one can sit on the patio behind the hotel and watch Boats meander through Neptune’s Staircase, a series of small locks lifting and lowering boats.
