When in Monterey, you might also visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Costs you $ 50 per person (which we found to be quite steep) but the Aquarium is run by a non-profit organization and costs to run this place are likely tremendous. The aquarium opened in 1984 and was the first to exhibit native kelp (as can be seen in the meantime in San Francisco and San Diego). In addition to hundreds of colorful fish, you will be able to see penguins, otters, hammer sharks, stingrays and a whole bunch of other creatures. At certain times you can watch divers feeding whatever is in the tanks.
