When my husband and I visited the California Central Coast a few years ago, we were most excited to see the beautiful beaches we'd heard so much about. Monastery Beach, a golden sand beach just outside the quaint town of Carmel by the Sea, did not disappoint. We drove past it on our way to Point Lobos State Reserve (also an amazing park worth a visit!) and it looked so beautiful that we decided to stop on a whim. The beach is small but dramatic. With its course golden sand and deep turquoise waves, it looked like it belonged on a Greek island, not in California. The waves are a bit treacherous so I wouldn't recommend swimming, but it was a gorgeous place to simply enjoy the sand and admire the view.

Beautiful beach with golden sand and deep turquoise waters. The waves are very dangerous, so be careful if you go in the water.
