Mayan Secrets in the Jungle, Part 2

While the world at large had forgotten and then "rediscovered" many Mayan sites, the local people have passed down at least some of the knowledge of their ancestors. Our group (5 women) visited the unexcavated ruins at Yaxunah two days in a row; each time, a local man met us somewhere along our explorations (we assume heard our car approach) and shared information about the complex.
The first day, the guide told us how there used to be a gigantic marketplace, and pointed out the road to Cobá; the road had been plotted out so that it passed cenotes along the way for vendors and traders to have fresh water on their 100 km journey. There was a special stone that marked the cardinal directions once you arrived...
