Marrakesh is Amazing!

Marrakesh, Marrakesh-Tensift-El Haouz, Morocco
0 Kudos
Marrakesh is one of the greatest cities I have ever been to in my life. The culture, the people, the food, everything in this city is great. You can go to the insanely large Medina (old town) and end up in Jemaa el-Fna. You can hang out with snake charmers and buy an entire bull's head. There are exotic animals, amazing art, delicious food made fresh in a Moroccan tajine. The people are very friendly and willing to help you, whether in taxis, the train station, hotels, restaurants, the Medina, or anywhere else you can think of. You can also easily find tours and other interesting things as well, such as going in a hot air balloon or riding camels. If you are in Morocco, you need to visit Marrakesh.

The culture that you find in this section of Marrakesh is absolutely amazing. As soon as you enter this section of town you are greeted by "water-sellers" who aren't actually selling water but are fun to take pictures with, there are cobra charmers that will let you hold their snakes for a small fee (negotiate, you will win), traditional storytellers (though they do this in Arabic), amazing fresh-squeezed orange juice, monkeys galore doing gymnastics, and the market is incredible! You can get all sorts of tourist things inside, as well as delicious candied fruit and other great food. This place is worth the visit and a must see if you are in Morocco!

You can get camel riding tours through whatever hotel you are staying at. Usually you will ride for about thirty minutes, get to a nice little building where you stop for tea, and then ride back. It is worth the experience since most of us do not have camels wherever it is that we live. If you are on a budget, you could skip this activity. Also, your butt will probably be a little sore from riding the camels!

The pool here is beautiful and the service is fantastic. I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It is directly outside of the central train station. The employees speak English, French, and Arabic. They have a selection of beers and it is very close to the Medina and anything else you need to get to in Marrakesh.

Points of interest

The Medina is Old Marrakesh at its best. The walls around the city are hundreds of years old and the market, minus the difference in clothing and electricity, is the same that it was hundreds of years ago. You can find tons of fresh fruit and candied fruit, as well as tourist items like Aladdin's Lamp replicas and incredible antiques. This is a must-see if you are in Marrakesh.
