Mapu A Vaea - Impressive Blow Holes in Tonga

Fua'amotu, Tongatapu, Tonga
7 Kudos
Flag
Many regard these as the single most impressive sight on the island of Tongatapu, the main island in the Tonga chain. Mapu ‘a Vaea or “Whistle of Vaea” is the local name for a stretch of Tongan coastline that produces a whistling sound as the ocean crashes into a natural channel on the coral rock, forming water spouts that rise up to 18 meters in the air, a most impressive natural spectacle. When the sun is positioned correctly, there are also regular rainbows that appear in the sky. The blow holes are easily accessible from the ring road around the island.
