Majestic Costa Rica

Nuevo Arenal, Costa Rica

Can't say enough positive things about this trip! Ate great food, made wonderful friends and saw many beautiful things! Upon arrival into Costa Rica (San Jose) we rented a car to drive to our destination in near Volcano Arenal. The drive was gorgeous! (and relaxing) On the way to our hotel we stopped at a small hut that served traditional Costa Rican food. Jayson and I both ordered Arroz con Pollo....and it was delicioso! Simple and inexpensive but authentic and filled with flavor. The hotel we stayed at was a hidden gem! Volcano Brewing Company. What more could we ask for in the rain forrest? A stunning view of volcanos and Lake Arenal, fresh and organic homemade food (tilapia caught daily from Lake Arenal), micro-brewed beer (Gato Malo-mmmmm!) and of coarse the friendly staff. Everyone we encountered in CR were pleasant and would go above and beyond to make us feel at home. 1st example was the hotel manager asked me what I was most excited about when we first met and I told him my main goal was to see a sloth! 2 days into our stay while I was showering in my room I heard banging on the door! Roberto (the manager) was alerting us that there was a sloth with her baby on the hotel grounds! It meant the world to me that he rushed to our room so I would not miss this rare opportunity! That was just one example of the wonderful experience we had here. Needless to say we did not want our stay at Volcano Brewing Co. to end.Other experiences that wouldn't have been possible without the locals in the area:-a hotel employee took us to the local wind mills and took us to his home with his parents. His mother prepared for us tamales....-another employee of the hotel helped us with directions to a local waterfall that most people do not know about. It was a scenic drive that ended in a beautiful hike through the forrest and waterfalls.

Beautiful Hike. Can be strenuous! Wear comfy shoes. Bring lots of water. Look for howler monkeys, sloths and all different types of birds if you love animals like me!
Really cute local town with a lot of backpackers! good place to go and have a meal! we took a ziplining tour around this area too!

We drove through this town a few times and just picked random spots to stop and have a bite. You can't go wrong. Its nice to just see the locals doing their daily thing.... take everything in! On one of the drives to Tilaran we saw some monkeys!
