The highlight of my trip to Key West was a little place called Dry Tortugas National Park. ( https://www.nps.gov/drto/index.htm )Prior to going I had no idea this place existed. Located about 70 miles west of Key West, it is a 100 square mile park that is mostly ocean. To get there, you take a full day boat tour that includes lunch and snorkeling gear. There are also overnight camping trips. This place was so cool to me because it's pure & undefiled, the water is crystal clear, and teeming with sea life. My friend and I had a great time snorkeling, it was the best snorkel experience I've had so far. It's a great mix of nature/adventure and history. On this little island is a 19th century fort, Fort Jefferson. It was fun to explore - you can do a guided tour but we just explored ourselves. The whole place is so small so you have the chance to explore every nook and cranny throughout the day. It's great bucket list item!
