The Leavenworth Centennial Bridge has become one of the symbols of the town of Leavenworth, Kansas. This town is well-known for its proximity to Fort Leavenworth, the prisons, and its frontier history. It was also an important river town along with Atchison, Kansas, St. Joseph, Missouri, and of course the much larger cities of Omaha and Kansas City. Needless to say, its location on the Missouri River was fundamental to much of its history. Today, the Leavenworth Centennial Bridge serves the needs of drivers traveling east or west through the region. It is a most striking structure, with its large steel arches soaring high above the river.
