We began our recent Africa trip in Kigali, Rwanda. We didn't do a lot in the city, but we made it a point to visit the Genocide Memorial. This site pays tribute to the victims of Rwanda's 1994 genocidal nightmare. Hundreds of thousands of the victims are buried at this site. The center does a very good job of memorializing the victims, telling some stories of the survivors, and giving some historical context for how this inconceivable event happened. It's very moving and difficult to go through at some points. But, of course, it is a very important story to tell. Nearly all the exhibits have good signage in multiple languages, including English. I also rented an audio guide, which was nice, but not essential.
Park Inn by Radisson Kigali
This was our hotel for our one night in Kigali. It was very nice.
