Just chilling with a pelican at Sanibel Island

Sanibel, FL, United States
28 Kudos
Sanibel Island is probably one of the greatest beaches in the country. I love to travel there with my family and spend the days shelling, swimming and enjoying the wildlife. We do not live too far from there, so this is a journey that we make quite often. Getting to the island is easy and there is always parking to be found if you get there early enough. Once you are there, finding a spot to set up is key and then following the shelling rules of the area is something to always keep in mind. While this is a shelling capital, you need to be mindful to not be taking live shells. Also, be aware of the other things in the ocean, potentially sharks and stingrays. Of course don't let yourself be fearful and have fun on this amazing beach!

Bowman's Beach
Bowman's Beach is a pretty popular area on the island to hang out.
Captiva Island
Attached to Sanibel by a small bridge. An equally beautiful destination. there are a lot of beach houses for rent here. Be aware of the crowds as we have had shoes stolen in the past (of all things, right?)
Sanibel Island
Sanibel Island
The best beach island, in my humble opinion. Get there early for parking and a good spot on the beach, especially during tourist season. If you are going to stay in a hotel, make sure to book early and be aware that hotels in the area are pricey.
