Although Balinese and the more Eastern Indonesian foods have a little more kick in my experience, Javanese food is equally exquisite. Javanese cuisine is uaully much simpler, usually only incorporating a few ingredients or one or two flavorings. It is also usually sweeter than the Indian influences so overwhelmingly present in Balinese food. Palm sugar seems to make its way into almost everything. Pretty much anything off the menu will turn out alright, just pick your meat or vegetarian main and then going random with deciphering a menu in the back woods will be fine. Whatever you order, get a fresh avocado and chocolate shake to wash it down. Thank me later.
