I took this photo at sunrise from my room at the DoubleTree Hotel in El Paso, Texas. This beautiful sunrise was a metaphor for something very special. To me, it symbolized the recovery of the El Paso-Juarez region from the drug wars that plagued the area a few years ago.

Yes, there is still some drug violence in the area. There are neighborhoods on both sides of the Border where you do not want to go. When you visit, you will want to take the same precautions that you would take in any other major city. On the other hand, this entire region has done an outstanding job of recovering from those dark days of the drug wars. El Paso has seen a great construction boom and Juarez has experienced an incredible turnaround. Businesses are moving back into Juarez, museums are opening, the tourist areas have become safe again, and life is returning to normal. Juarez is open for business again and El Paso seems to be entering a time of prosperity.

During your visit to El Paso-Juarez, you will be able to visit museums, enjoy some great shopping, attend a minor league baseball game at the home of the El Paso Chihuahuas, experience everything from fine dining to food trucks, stay at nice hotels, take a hike, ride on a historic trolley, and experience the beauty of the Chihuahuan Desert.

It is morning in El Paso-Juarez. A new day is dawning. You owe it to yourself to visit the area and experience the rebirth for yourself. El Paso-Juarez is ready to welcome you. Three States, two countries, one region.
