For a small city (about 60,000 people), Idaho Falls has a pretty nice zoo! They don't have large animals like elephants or giraffes, but they do have tigers, lions, mountain lions, and zebras. The zoo has a primate habitat with several different primates. The Asian area contains a red panda, bears, and a crane. My son loves the petting zoo where he can feed and comb the goats. The penguin display is always a highlight and there is an option to pay for a penguin encounter. At various times in the day, they even take the penguins for a walk through the zoo. Many times, zoo volunteers are out and about with small animals that they let visitors pet. All in all, it is a great way to spend a couple of hours if you are in the area. Kids especially love it.
