Ibague - Musical Capital of Colombia

Ibague, Tolima, Colombia
16 Kudos
The city of Ibague, a departmental capital not far from Bogotá, calls itself the “Musical City”, ever since a French visitor dubbed it that way in an 1886 article. The national government offered funds a few years later for the establishment of a school of music, now known as the Conservatory of Tolima, and housing the first Musical University of Latin America. I did not learn what song the notes depicted on the walls are for. Over the years other music features have included the National Folklore Pageant and many monuments referring to music and culture.
