I thought “ Matryoshkas” are Russian

Kyiv, Ukraine
17 Kudos
I thought that Matryoshkas are traditional Russian toys/ souvenirs and therefore was not expecting to see them in Ukraine. But those little toys were plentiful in souvenirs stores as in vendors carts throughout the city. They had various designs - some depicting Ukrainian colors and outfits, some had political messages. Those toys provides me with an easy option for the gifts for my family back home - easy to transport, not heavy, something new and unique. I ended up buying about 10 of them for under 5 dollars each. Those are the best souvenirs I ever brought back. Maybe they will appreciate with time!
