Humorous Hawaiian History At Black Rock Beach

Napili-Honokowai, HI, United States

Flag
Black Rock Beach lies on the far northern end of Kaanapali Beach, past most of the mega resorts which lie to it's south. It's a very popular public beach and attracts both local Hawaiians and tourists from the nearby hotels. It's also an excellent spot for snorkeling as a large reef lies just offshore from Black Rock point. The beach also marks an important aspect of Ancient Hawaiian history here in the form of cliff diving. Chief Kahekili (whom ruled Maui in the late 1700's) once dove off these rocks without fear many times, frightening off bad spirits which drew the respect and joy of many of his warriors at the time. The beach and point here is also a part of the Kaanapali Historical Trail which begins here.
