Hoping not to see one - unless we do

It has surprised me that so many invasive species are really rather pretty. The Spotted Lantern Fly (that is actually quite a bit larger than a ‘fly’, is about half and inch long and would rival a cicada, I think) is one such insect that is bright, colorful, spotted (always a plus) and just looks intriguing. As a fruit tree killer, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture as well as the Unites States Department of Agriculture have identified this little bug as a serious and fast moving pest – and so the signage at trail entrances are especially valuable for hikers in the Hickory Run State Park like ourselves – we know what to look for and how to report them if seen.
