With over 40 golf courses on 70 square miles of land, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina is the perfect destination golfers of any ability. But what if you have never held a golf club in your life, and don't necessarily have a desire to take up the hobby any time soon? Should you still go to Hilton Head?
The answer, my friend, is YES.
A quick two-hour flight from NYC, the island is the perfect antidote to an overworked, under sunned, busy lifestyle - especially if you don't like to golf. With little else to do, spending a long weekend on the island practically forces you to slow down, take a leisurely walk along the beach, rock in a rocking chair in front of a lighthouse, actually talk to your loved one(s), and revel in some of the best cuisine in the country.
Some quick tips: we flew into Savannah and rented a car for the weekend, which I found to be a huge help. Restaurants and attractions are spread out all over the island, and you will probably want the autonomy of having your own vehicle.
The food is down-home, low-country, southern cooking. Some of our favorite spots were: Sunrise Cafe and Lowcountry Backyard for breakfast, and One Hot Mama's, Hudson Seafood on the Docks, and Skullcreek Boatyard for dinner.
