Hiking Crane Mtn - but not to fish

Chestertown, NY, United States
18 Kudos
The hamlet of Chestertown, associated with Chester is a small community in Warren County, New York. Early Dutch settlers in the Adirondack Mountains and in the surrounding Forest Preserve must have had a rough existence, scaping out daily life with what they could manage – poor soils, mountain ponds, little large game if any at all. To hike and explore the region today towns like Chestertown make a visit possible, and quite enjoyable as you can explore at will along the park trails – and even fish for leisure in the stocked ponds. Keeping those ponds free of invasive species seems to be the problem now, and as the capital letters indicate – an important goal for the park system.
