I would bet that almost everyone in the world has heard of the David sculpture by Michelangelo and seen at least one picture of it. Seeing it in person is a whole other experience. I was aware of the history of the sculpture. What it was made of, who it was and when it was made. What I was not expecting was exactly how big the sculpture is. After looking at pictures, you get an idea in your head about the size of something (like the Mona Lisa is WAY smaller than I expected), so when you see it in person, you can be in for quite the surprise. I highly suggest that anyone who finds their way to Florence gets tickets to the Galleria dell'Accademia and see this amazing sculpture in person.
