Anegundi, KA, India
7 Kudos
By far the most popular and most crowded image of the Vijaya Vittala Temple east of Hampi is the massive, multi story and multi ton stone chariot parked right inside the gate. The most amazing thing about this carving is not just the quality, intricacy, and preservation of it, but actually that the whole thing does in fact roll. This is not just a sculpture but a moving vehicle used for religious processions. You can still see such vehicles at many temples all across India, but this is the only one I know of that is completely made out of carved rock.
