Hanalei Bay Resort - Bali Hai

Princeville, HI, United States
4 Kudos
It was difficult finding just the right accomdations for our honeymoon in Kauai, until I realized that the best way to go was a vacation rental. Somehow I stumbled on what I believe was the best possible accommodations for us....Hanalei Bay Resort ( ). For such an excellent price, this place was truly amazing! It is both a hotel and community of privately owned units. We rented a unit through VRBO, and found a welcome bag full of goodies from the owner / management company when we arrived. But we also had full access to resort amenities.

It had amazing views of the north shore. The name "Bali Hai" comes from this part of the island...sort of....the backdrop of the bay and mountains is the set of the movie South Pacific, and is the mythical Bali Hai. It definitely feels like a tropical paradise escape. The grounds and landscaping of the resort are beautifully decorated with greenery and colorful flowers, the pool area is very nice, the hot tub has a sand bottom (a small detail that I absolutely loved!), waterfalls in the rocks, etc. The sunset view is incredible every day. There's a winding foot path down to the beach, that is shared with the prestigious Saint Regis. You can walk this footpath or call for a golf cart shuttle. Nearby is the town and bay of Hanalei, a charming, sort of boho town.

Our room - tiled floors, squishy king size bed, balcony, nice big clean room and bathroom. It had a little kitchenette so we could make coffee and microwave. It was a great place to come back to after busy action filled days.

Resort amenities - laundry facilities, restaurant, nice gift shop, very friendly people, gated access, parking available.
Nearby - food store, very convenient for breakfast.

Oh and the movie The Descendants with George Clooney was filmed here in Hanalei Bay / Princeville area. If you've seen that movie, then you've seen part of what I'm talking about. The bar that they go to, Tahihi Nui, is a great little restaurant. We had a delicious dinner there our last night of the trip.

Seriously - I cannot recommend this place enough!! If you are planning to go to the north shore of Kauai, consider this resort!
(By the way the north shore and south shore, even east shore, are very different. South is typical resort-style flat beaches, and North is stunning picturesque landscape, with cliffs and mountains.
