Gold Beach is a landing area for the British Forces in the Normandy area of France. The central landing zone out of the five that the Allied forces used in this area of France, this beach was bordered by high cliffs on one side, giving them a flat area to land in. They landed here with the intention of meeting the American troops at Omaha beach to move in on Bayeux.
The beauty of this area does not overshadow what happened to the British Forces here and the history of the military actions here has not been forgotten by our allies in the war. It should be a definite destination for anyone traveling to the Normandy area.
