When I thought of New York a couple years ago, all that came to mind was the city. Beyond that -- who knew? But then I made the trek upstate for the very first time -- eight long hours in the car from D.C, and did you know Pennsylvania goes on FOREVER? -- and was blown away by its beauty. I went hiking in the woods of the Finger Lakes, scaling great mountaintops and carefully navigating some slippery-faced rocks with my not-hiking-appropriate shoes and was met by a truly awesome scene that suddenly appeared before me: the lakes in the distance, with trees as far as the eye could see. It was so peaceful. I'd love to return someday.
