A couple of my girlfriends and I decided to surprise our other girlfriend with a trip to South Beach in Miami for her 30th birthday. Two of us came from Kansas City, one from Dallas and one from Chicago, all meeting in Fort Lauderdale. The trip from Fort Lauderdale to South beach was simple and quick and the drive in proved to awe us with some pretty spectacular views of the city-scape and the waterways. After the initial culture shock wore off, we had to learn our new surroundings and find places to eat, shop, and party. By the way, the food in South Beach is absolutely amazing. I would recommend eating a Cuban Sandwich at Larios on Ocean Drive. We stayed right on Collins Ave, which gave us access to tons of places to eat and just down the road is Lincoln Ave, which is where all of the fun shops are located, as well as close access straight to the beach. Behind Collins is Ocean Drive, and this is where all the fun begins. We went to Liv Nightclub and partied at and awesome area with music and tons of cool events. We got to witness a pretty sweet light show and experienced the house music on that Friday night. Mangos is a great place to go during the day for cool air and cool drinks. Wet Willies had our slushy drinks and Clevelanders was also a pretty neat spot.Using Uber as our main source of transportation worked out the best, as it's fast and easy and seemed pretty safe for each of the 8 times we transported with them.
The only negative aspect of the entire trip was our hotel. We stayed at the Marseilles, which had a great pool, the best access to the beach, and an awesome front porch area to chill and eat and drink and see all the action, but the rooms were a little icky and we didn't get a housekeeper to clean at all the whole 3 days we stayed.
All in all, South Beach was definitely a great time and I look forward to going back again someday!
