Frederic Mares

08004 Barcelona, Spain
19 Kudos
Wherever we travel, we inevitably see many impressive sculptures. So, when we saw this work on the Placa de Catalunya, we knew it must be pretty important to have a permanent home on the main square of Barcelona. As we found out, the sculpture was created by Frederic Mares and it is called Barcelona. It seems Mares was not only a renowned artist, but he also was an avid art collector. A big one. During his lifetime of ninety-nineyears he squirreled away thousands of 12th-19th century sculptures and object d’art, enough to fill a museum. In his last will and testament, he left the entire collection to the city of Barcelona, now everyone can see it for themselves at the Museu Frederic Mares.
