The limited time I've spent in the state of Oklahoma has been generally full of historical minutiae. Obviously, much of Oklahoma's history involves Native Americans and the often not-so-pleasant dealings with the United States government. This particular photo is of a plaque which documents an "Indian uprising" which took place in 1874. I remember looking at the plaque and re-reading it and just sort of shaking my head. I mean, is that really the best language to use to describe an extended historical event which is a rather touchy subject in the first place? I thought the state could do a bit better.
