While visiting Boston this past spring, we decided to take a food tour in the North End. We had never done that kind of tour, but we love to eat and especially Italian!! I scoured travel sites looking for the best reviews and stumbled upon a food and history tour called Off the Eaten Path. It was by far, the best of both! It was led by the owner of the company and she was a history major who lived now in North End with her husband who grew up there. She has gotten to know the restaurant owners and we went to six of the best hidden secrets, with an overview of the history of Boston and North End while walking to and from. Everything from homemade pasta and pizza, to fresh baked bread, to a local Italian grocer, to a wine bodega, and then last but not least, homemade cannolis, gelato, finished with Italian Espresso!!! We went at lunch time and after the 3 hour tour we were stuffed and happy. I highly recommend!
