Follow the yellow brick road?

Kansas City, MO, United States
1 Kudo
My band was booked to play a show in Kansas City, MO this winter and while reluctant to travel all the way to the Midwest for a one night gig, I agreed. I am SO happy that I did. Kansas City doesn’t get much play for being a cool city and I’m not exactly sure why. While there, we ate great food, saw amazing old brick architecture down every street, and met some really hospitable natives. The weather was mild while we were there which is nice, and the city travel was made pretty simple. All in all, I had a great time and want to visit again when I have more time to explore. (Did I mention Barbecue?)

Bars and nightlife

O'Dowd\'s Little Dublin
O'Dowd's Little Dublin
We popped in here around 11pm one night and it was packed with people dancing. I didn't expect this so early in an evening, but we had a blast for hours.

Holiday Inn Kansas City Downtown - Aladdin
The location of this hotel was perfect if you wanted to explore the plaza.

Points of interest

Kansas City International Airport
I do not like this airport. If there is a way to travel around it, do so.
Mission Hills
Mission Hills
This is the area where we played the show. The homes are insanely beautiful. You truly feel like you are driving through a movie set. I suggest taking a little scenic drive if you find yourself in the area.

Parisi Café at Park Place Shops
They had great novelty coffees with flavors you would never think of.
We had great infused tea at this spot.
Joe's Kansas City Barbecue
Joe's Kansas City Barbecue
This was the first place all of the natives suggested. Inside of a gas station, it's a bit off putting, but the BBQ lived up to that famous flare.

Country Club Plaza
This was shopping mecca. Every store you can think of-- plus it's lit up for the holidays.
