Fishing For Pearls...Sort Of

San Francisco, CA 94172, USA

The Pearl Factory is "Hawaii's Original Pearl-In-The-Oyster". At Pier 39 in San Francisco, you can pay $14.99 to pick an oyster that was shipped straight from Japan. You get to fish or rather pick an oyster from about twenty oysters in a bowl. They will crack it open for you and you will find at least one pearl in it. You can then pay extra to have the pearl added to a ring or a necklace. We saw other tourists fish for a pearl and their pearl actually turned out beautiful. While $14.99 is not a lot, you can end up paying a lot more if you decide to turn it into a piece of jewelry. You'll probably end up doing this because there's not much you can do with just a standalone pearl.
