Taking our first trip to the Everglades in Florida was a real eye opener for us as we had mostly been sheltered in the mid west. The diverse echo system, swampy land, and novel reptiles were all so interesting to us. We saw everything from a snake on the road to a gator in the swamp, a variety of neat fish and birds and this really strange orange grasshopper looking creature coming out of a store. We took our time and explored the area and were glad we did as it gave us a new perspective. I highly recommend traveling the Tamiami trail instead of taking the interstate if driving across southern Florida so you can see all of this.
