On one of our trips to the Florida Keys we took the Tamiami trail from Naples to Homestead instead of the interstate. This was a fantastic drive that gave us such an appreciation for the everglades. There are many different natural areas to pull off and view wildlife and it didn't take long for us to see our first alligator in the wild. This was really cool for us and the children. H.P. Williams Roadside Park is the park that is east of the turnoff to Everglades City and where we were able to see the gator in the Turner River Canal. There was plenty of parking and it was just a short walk to the water.
