Emigrant Wilderness is seriously wild and for backpackers who seriously love hiking! It's hard work, and it's strenuous, but it's so worth it! We carried everything on our backs and it's about 30 lbs of added weight for each person which makes it somewhat challenging but in the end you feel so accomplished! Emigrant is bordered by Yosemite on one side and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest on the other side. Really spectacular place filled with lakes, meadows, granite boulders etc... There are many trails here but we opted for an 18.5 miles round trip done over three days. You have to reserve a permit, and start your hike from the Ranger Station in Pinecrest where you can pick up your permit before heading out.
